Entry No. 4: Learning Your Hair Changes Everything

There’s no shortage of hair advice.
Someone swears by a certain oil. Someone else has a seven-step wash day. A new product promises to become the missing piece in your routine.
And before long, your hair-care journey can become a cycle of trying, switching, buying, and starting over.
But one of the most valuable things you can learn about your hair is surprisingly simple:
What works for someone else’s hair doesn’t automatically work for yours.
Your Hair Gives You Information
How does your hair feel after wash day?
How quickly does it begin to feel dry?
Does a particular style leave your hair feeling protected—or stressed?
Do certain products leave buildup?
How does your hair respond when the weather changes?
Those observations matter.
You don’t have to know every technical term or become an expert overnight. You simply have to start noticing patterns.
Give Products Time to Work
Constantly changing your routine can make it difficult to determine what’s actually helping.
When it’s safe and reasonable to do so, give your routine enough consistency to observe how your hair responds.
That doesn’t mean continuing to use something that causes irritation or clearly isn’t working.
It means resisting the urge to change everything simply because you haven’t seen an immediate transformation.
Hair care is a relationship, and relationships take time to understand.
Your Routine Can Be Different
Maybe your hair needs moisture more frequently than someone else’s.
Maybe you prefer protective styles.
Maybe your routine only has a few products.
That’s okay.
The goal isn’t to build the most impressive hair-care routine.
The goal is to understand your hair well enough to build one that makes sense for you.
Before You Go…
This week, don’t add anything new to your routine.
Instead, observe.
Notice how your hair feels, what it responds well to, and what may need adjusting.
Sometimes the next step isn’t another product.
It’s paying attention.
Until next time… Start Your Ritual.
